How To Measure Your Ring Size

There are a few different methods you can use to find out your perfect ring size. If you already own a ring in the correct size, you can physically measure it or compare it against our printable ring size guide. If not, you can measure your finger to determine your size. Discover how to measure your ring size below.

Method 1: Measure a Ring
  1. Find a ring that fits comfortably on the finger that you are going to wear the new ring on.
  2. Measure the inside diameter of the ring using a ruler or measuring tape. To do this, make sure you use a ruler that measures in millimetres (mm), then place the ring on the ruler and measure the inside.

Method 2: Measure your Finger
  1. Cut a piece of string about 10 centimetres (cm) long.
  2. Wrap the string around the finger where the ring should sit. Pull so that the lace fits comfortably around your finger – not too tight and not too loose.
  3. Use a pen to mark the point where the end of the thread or paper overlaps itself.
  4. Place the string or paper on the ruler and measure the length (in mm) from the end of the string to the point you marked with the pen.
  5. This measurement will give you the circumference of your finger. Use it to find your size using the ring size chart below.
Expert Tips
  1. Always check the accuracy of measurements.
  2. The size of your finger may vary slightly throughout the day, over time and depending on the temperature. If you are between two ring sizes, choose the larger size (or half size) to ensure a comfortable fit.
  3. Make sure you measure the exact finger you are going to wear the ring on. Your ring size will vary between your fingers as well as between your hands. Use our ring size chart to convert your diameter to the correct ring size.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I account for variations in finger size during different times of the day or in different weather conditions?

Finger size can fluctuate due to various factors, but you can consider these tips to account for variations:

  • Opt for a Comfort Fit: Rings with a comfort fit, which have a slightly rounded interior, are more forgiving when it comes to finger size changes.
  • Measure at Optimal Times: Measure your ring size when your fingers are at their average size, usually in the evening or when they are at a normal body temperature. Avoid measuring when your fingers are too cold, as they tend to be smaller.
  • Consider the Seasons: Keep in mind that finger sizes can change in different weather conditions. Fingers tend to be slightly smaller in cold weather and larger in hot and humid weather.

What should I do if I'm between two ring sizes?

If you find yourself between two ring sizes, here are some options to consider:

  • Try Both Sizes: If possible, try on rings in both sizes and determine which one feels more comfortable. Pay attention to how the ring fits over your knuckle and how it sits on your finger.
  • Consider Ring Style: Some ring styles are more adjustable or can be resized more easily than others. For example, a thin band may feel more comfortable if it’s slightly larger, while a wider band may need to be a snugger fit.
  • Choose the Larger Size: In most cases, it’s better to opt for the slightly larger size as resizing a ring to make it smaller is generally easier and more cost-effective than enlarging it.

Remember, it’s essential to have a properly fitting ring to ensure both comfort and to prevent potential loss, so take the time to find the right size for your finger.
